Acomarit and LPL form joint venture
ACOMARIT Group and LPL Shipping have launched a new joint venture ship management company which will be based in Piraeus and will focus on the Greek shipping community.
Acomarit-LPL (Hellas) has taken over management of LPL's five bulk carriers.
It is the partners' intention, however, to move into tanker management to help small to medium-sized Greek owners in this increasingly sensitive area.
Panagos Lemos, a director of LPL, said: 'The new company is here to benefit Greek shipowners who now, more than ever, cannot afford to utilise their valuable time and resources keeping their vessels in line with increasingly demanding national and international regulations.' Giorgio Sulser, Acomarit chief executive, said the group intended to be at the forefront of change in the management of ships and the technical leader in all new initiatives, regulations and their compliance.
Acmarit manages more than 60 tankers of all types with an aggregate of six million deadweight tonnes.
'With Marpol's Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plans and further OPA impositions to be implemented in the second half of the decade, against a background of growing coastal state control, I believe many owners will wish to take full advantage of our specialisation and expertise in these areas,' Mr Sulser said.
The partners of Acomarit-LPL said the joint venture would combine a clear understanding of what Greek owners look for from their shipping assets with the quality-driven management approach of a leading technical ship manager.
